Who is Dr Justin Havens?

I am a highly qualified Psychological Therapist, holding accreditations from both the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and EMDR Europe.  My career as a therapist spans various areas, including the NHS and the charitable sector, and I am now fully engaged in private practice.

I am driven by a profound passion for advancing trauma treatment through the introduction of safe and effective therapeutic tools and have dedicated significant effort training and educating other therapists and organisations in these innovative methods, ensuring that these techniques reach a broad audience and improve outcomes for those suffering.

My commitment to this field is further demonstrated by my active involvement in research which focuses on evaluating the efficacy of nightmare and trauma treatment techniques.  I am currently engaged in collaborative research projects with several NHS Trusts, aiming to rigorously assess and refine therapeutic approaches.

In 2019, I completed my PhD at the Veterans and Families Institute at the Anglia Ruskin University. My doctoral research was centered on the development and evaluation of The Dream Completion Technique®, a novel approach designed to aid individuals suffering from nightmare and sleep disturbance. This work has contributed valuable insights and advancements to the field of sleep medicene.

Before embarking on my career as a psychological therapist, I gained considerable experience in several other professions.  This included serving in the British Army, where I developed skills in discipline and leadership.  I then worked in the fields of Engineering and Manufacturing, bringing a systematic and analytical approach to problem solving.  I then specialised in operational improvement as a management consultant, where I leveraged my expertise to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness in a wide variety of business sectors.

My multi-faceted background has helped me to bring a wide perspective on solving some of the key problems that those suffering from trauma experience, especially for the treatment of nightmares.  My ongoing efforts continue to shape the future of therapeutic practices and alleviate the distress of those in need, whilst being recognised as a thought leader and sleep expert in the treatment of nightmares in the UK.
